In a New York Post op-ed by Richard Miniter dated February 10, 2007, he attacks Nancy Pelosi with lies. This is well after the facts surrounding Pelosi and a need for long-distance military aircraft for transport have been out there:
- Pelosi would have been happy to fly commercial.
- She was told not to do so, and to fly on a military plane.
- Pelosi then requested something that could fly to San Francisco non-stop.
- The House seargant-at-arms made the subsequent plane request.
- There are three Air Force airplanes that have the fuel capacity to make the trip nonstop, with the largest being a C-32 plane, a military version of the Boeing 757-200.
- White House press secretary said Pelosi's request was "appropriate", and called criticism a "silly story".
[On Wednesday, Feb 7] word broke of Pelosi's request for regular use of a U.S. Air Force C-32 - the same plane that flies the vice president and first lady.Maybe Pelosi doesn't want to fly like the rest of us. Maybe Richard Miniter is a liar. Which is it?
She wants to travel in luxury. The Air Force jet is the same size and airframe as the Boeing 757-200, which carries about 300 passengers.
Maybe she just doesn't want to fly like the rest of us, enduring long lines and security hassles.
Fooling their own subscribers... That's what hate media does.
ReplyDeleteIt has become endemic inside the media champaign bubble, spread to hacks everywhere now, from Lou Dobbs to Joe Klein.
Label it, doing a Limbaugh.
It doesn't matter what the facts are, it's a manufactured 2 minute hate. If Pelosi had specifically requested only the C-20, the smallest plane capable of flying nonstop, the attack would be "Pelosi wants the equivalent of a Gulfstream, the jet of choice of CEOs. Does she think she owns Congress, the people's house?" It doesn't matter who they're attacking either, they'll find something to gin up. That's why the way to handle it is to throw it back at them, which is what Murtha is doing, holding hearings on who exactly uses "luxury" jets just like the speaker. I suspect we'll find some skeletons in closets on the other side of the aisle.
