Gingrich on Obama:
Saying things like:
- x "the 2012 presidential election is the most consequential since the 1860 race that elected Abraham Lincoln to the White House and was soon followed by the Civil War"
- x Gingrich sought to lay blame for the recession, as well as the economic and social upheaval in Detroit, on Obama
- "President Obama is the most successful food stamp president in American history"
- x "maybe we should also have a voting standard that says to vote ... you should have to learn American history"
Those talking points will resonate with those who have a dim view of blacks, or their economic and civil rights history, which is probably the intention.
Newt is now THE SOUTHERN CANDIDATE for the 2012 Republican nomination, with Haley Barbour and Mike Hucklebee bowing out. (Notice the chubiness of all three of them?) So Newt has to show he is a "good ol' boy Redneck" to distinguish himself from the crowd.
As to the eye of Newt, it is too old to wander romantically (unless under the influence of a Viagra/Cialis cock/tail), perhaps due to his myopia with rehashing 1860, which led to the Civil War. Surely Newt is not comparing himself to Lincoln and Lincoln's Republican Party that apparently no longer exists. Newt is looking at history through the wrong end of the telescope.
Imagine a creative speech by Newt: "Seven score and 11 years ago, ..."
