And I'm stunned that people don't understand the President no longer has a vote in the Senate.
Ahem. The president has a pen that can veto stuff. He can veto a blanket extension of the tax cuts and propose the Obama Tax Cut package for the vaunted middle-class.
Even better, they are apparently going to cut Social Security payroll taxes, and start burning through the "trust fund" in earnest! Who saw that one coming?

but can't write law to avoid the $300B/yr tax rise on the 98%.
jms, sorry to burst your bubble but the general fund will be making the payment on the new FICA gap.
But at this point it's not going to matter. The writing is on the wall now.

Well then Social Security is just welfare now, which is fine by me, because with all the "moral obligations" of Social Security swept aside, it will be easier to bring in the cuts and means testing necessary to make it solvent, and eventually privatize it.
