Money flows:

Barry Ritholtz has a great diagram showing where the federal government gets and spends its money.

Defense is really big, huh? Also, what's that $612 billion mandatory "other" all about?

Defense is really big. You'd think it was mentioned in the Constitution or something.

Interesting how he just left the deficit sitting there. He could have easily added a source called "Borrowing". Where is the "stimulus" spending also? That entry should be almost as big as the defense entry, yet it is missing.

The Constitution doesn't designate America as the world's police force. It doesn't say we should pour three quarters of a trillion dollars down a rat hole by invading a country that didn't attack us.

From 1991-2003, Iraq continually attacked U.S. military aircraft enforcing the UN established no-fly zone.

American and British aircraft continuously maintained the integrity of the NFZ, receiving anti-aircraft fire from Iraqi forces almost daily.
