Shorter Ross Douthat:As far as the priest abuse stories go, 'something in the moral/cultural/theological climate of the 1960s and 1970s encouraged a spike in sexual abuse', and I should know, I was there to witness it.

I happen to know that something in the moral/cultural/theological climate of the 1950s encouraged Americans to conform to stricter societal mores, and I should know, I was there to witness it.
Even though I was born in 1963 ;)
