Health care legislation blame game:

TPM has a round-up of key figures and events that have contributed to the delay (and possible failure) of health care legislation.

Of those listed, Max Baucus and Joe Lieberman rank high as offenders in my book. It wasn't just those two (many others have a hand in what's transpired) but they get the ribbons.

I've not analyzed all the contributing factors, but of course I blame Republicans and their outrageous lies about the bill. But they worked, in part because political media seem to think a lie is equivalent to the truth.

I also blame the Senate overall, but especially the "sempre maƱana" attitude of Baucus really sticks out for me.

Obama is very cautious. He wouldn't have given a target date of August 2009 if that were a tight deadline-- there was plenty of time to do it by then. The slow-walking of the bill by Baucus totally blew that deadline.

I wretch when I see Baucus now.

Oh, also Martha Coakley ran a horrible campaign. I blame her too.
