Shorter David Broder:
Yup, ya gotta have 60 votes in the Senate to pass anything.

Broder is so far behind the times! Baucus has already declared that the new threshold for any REAL legislation is 65 votes.

And just two days ago, Mitch McConnel decided that the newest threshold to make healthcare even slightly legitimate is now 70 votes.

51-49 is legitimate enough for me. Majority rules in this country. If we can elect a president with 50.1 percent of the vote, we can accept as valid any legislation that passes with a majority vote, regardless of the percentage.

Republicans are only trying to move the goalposts completely out of the stadium and into the parking lot. Funny how they didn't seem to mind passing bills with a simple majority when they held Congress. "Do as I say, not as I do" is their guiding principle these days.
