i've been hearing winger grassroots defensively argue "okay, so there is no 'death panel' in the bill, but that doesn't mean the potential isn't there for it to be slipped in."
they have shifted from the definitive "grandma is going to die!!!!!" - to hedging "uh, it could happen."
wingers realize how crazy all of this death panel talk is making them look, so they fashioned themselves an out.
this is called "being on the defensive." all of the recent debunking that has taken place is having an effect. people who truly have the upper hand on a debate and are winning the issue double down on an argument. they don't go on the defensive.
