I think that this is is a good example of the sort of potential fun we can have with personal computer power ca. 2008. How cool would it be if they analyzed/scanned the diamond and made a little virtual "cut it yourself" game-slash-time-waster out of it?
If they put something like that online it would make a nice occasional diversion from solitaire. (And maybe even teach a little about crystalline structure, etc.)
