Chart of the day:
Democrats: 32 for stripping immunity, 16 against, 1 not voting (Kennedy, almost surely for stripping immunity).
Republicans: 0 for stripping immunity, 48 against, 1 not voting (McCain, almost surely against stripping immunity).
Lieberman against.

In the Senate, more Democrats are against immunity. In the House, more Democrats were against the bill as a whole. Yet the leadership in both chambers pushes forward a bill that is supported by all Republicans except one: Tim Johnson of Illinois).

Who are Pelosi and Reid working for?

Based on the fact that the majority of both chambers were for the bill, I can see why it was moved forward.

However, the bill itself warrants more committee study and discussion and should not have been put up for a vote. That congresspeople would vote for such an evisceration of the 4th amendment without even a full understanding of the telecom programs in question, while voting down some completely reasonable amendments, tells me these are not people willing to fight for even the most basic American rights.

I say kick Reid and Pelosi and all who voted for this travesty out of office.

One more thing...

What does this bill add to FISA that didn't already exist, and how does it differ from the Protect America Act? I admit I have only focused on the immunity part of this issue, because they would not consider the two issues separately.

But the leadership in the House apparently has the power to not allow things to get to the floor.

Why shouldn't we Democrats use the power the same way the Republicans did, with their "majority of the majority" principle?
