What's this crap about an "artificial deadline"?Bush
says:
... members of the House and the Senate passed a bill [for funding the Iraq War with conditions].
... a few minutes ago, I vetoed this bill.
Tonight I will explain the reasons for this veto ...
First, the bill would mandate a rigid and artificial deadline for American troops to begin withdrawing from Iraq.
An artificial deadline would be picking dates out of a hat. If, in the opinion of Congress, Iraq is not worth more than four years of occupation, deciding to exit sometime in the fifth year is not an artificial deadline. It is a
considered deadline.

I thought the "deadline" he vetoed was non-binding.
The Commander should have signed it and added a signing statement saying he'll pull the troops out when he is good and ready. That would have shown the Defeatocrats a thing or two.
