How?

In the news:
The CIA fired a long-serving intelligence officer for sharing classified information with The Washington Post and other news organizations, officials said yesterday, as the agency continued an aggressive internal search for anyone who may have discussed intelligence with the news media.

[...]

Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), who chairs the Senate intelligence panel, welcomed the CIA's actions. In a statement, he said leaks had "hindered our efforts in the war against al Qaeda," although he did not say how.

Even though we have the most powerful military in the world and are fighting against a bunch of fundamentalist wingnuts living in caves and armed with old AK-47s, even the slightest piece of information could be catastrophic to our 5-year mission to find one really tall old guy with no kidneys. Anything from troop movements, to illegal wiretapping of citizens, to the fact that we haven't caught bin Ladin, to a list of our state capitals, to the role of Pakistan, to Bush's complete disinterest in finding bin Ladin, serves only to emboldinize our swarthy enemies, some of whom MIGHT BE IN YOUR TOWN RIGHT NOW!!!!!!

The "how" is most certainly and obviously highly classified information.

Apparently we have gotten to the point where even as a senator denounces national security leaks, he is criticized by a disappointed press for not sexing up his denouncement with some juicy little classified leaks.
