Listen to somebody who knows:During the Roberts hearings, Senator Brownback repeatedly used the example of children with Down Syndrome to make a case against abortion. Some fetuses are aborted when it can be determined that a baby will be born with a serious lifelong disability, like Down Syndrome. In Brownback's view, that's not warranted. (At a minimum. He doesn't like abortion in any circumstances.) The senator has even brought a child with Down Syndrome to the hearing and basically presented the issue as, "How can you be so cruel as to want this person,
standing right next to me, dead?"
Thus, it is very interesting to read what
Michael Berubé has to say that kind of argument. Highly recommended.
