Is anybody in charge here?

From the New York Times last week: (excerpts, emp add)
U.S. Officials Retool Slogan for Terror War

In recent speeches and news conferences, Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld and the nation's senior military officer have spoken of "a global struggle against violent extremism" rather than "the global war on terror," which had been the catchphrase of choice. Administration officials say that phrase may have outlived its usefulness, because it focused attention solely, and incorrectly, on the military campaign.

Administration and Pentagon officials say the revamped campaign has grown out of meetings of President Bush's senior national security advisers that began in January, and it reflects the evolution in Mr. Bush's own thinking nearly four years after the Sept. 11 attacks.
SUMMARY: Change from GWOT to GSAVE reflects Bush's own thinking.

But we read over at TPM Cafe (Larry Johnson): (excerpts, emp add)
Stop the presses. WOT--the War on Terrorism may still be alive. The counter terrorism community is abuzz over the President's comments yesterday at a principals meeting of the Homeland Security Council. Bush reportedly said he was not in favor of the new term, Global Struggle Against Violent Extremism (GSAVE). In fact, he said, "no one checked with me". That comment brought an uncomfortable silence to the assembled group of pooh bahs. The President insisted it was still a war as far as he is concerned.

Sure, how else can he be the WAR president?

Look, please let's get this straight. The war in Iraq is almost untouchable politically. It is much too easy to rejoin, "You don't support our troops," to pretty much any statement that isn't verbal fellatio of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, etc.

But Iraq is only a part of the "War on Terror". And the War on Terror is DEFINITELY FAIR GAME. And IT IS OBVIOUSLY BEING LOST.

1) There are, today, more acts of terrorism world-wide than ever before, particularly in Iraq. B[ush Ch]eney essentially admits this.

2) Osama bin Laden is at large and every other word is Al Qaeda.

3) The ability of terrorists to strike anywhere anytime is absolutely unchanged if not improved.

4) 1,800 soldiers have been killed and 14,000 wounded without achieving a single goal in the War on Terror. The War on Terror justifications for the Iraq War were falsehoods.

5) Our military is being gradually weakened. We cannot confront either Iran or North Korea militarily.

THE WAR ON TERROR IS BEING LOST. Case closed. Final.

When is a Democrat going to come forward and say this. And say that if Democrats are elected we will win?

Gesus Saves.

You have to read the signs.

GW = George Washington Bush

G = Masonic shorthand for God

G-SAVE = George/God/Gesus needs saving

It's all transparent, if you think about it shallowly enough. Which, if you think about it, is how GW Bush thinks about things (if at all).

By the way, I think the "You don't support our troops" line is stoppable.

I saw it on I Effed Ann Coulter in the A**, Hard

"She showed her teeth. 'It sounds to me like you don’t support our troops.'

"'I think that "Support Our Troops" business is the most crass, craven cowardice ever to go unquestioned by the allegedly Liberal media.'

"'Yes? Yes?' There was oddly growing excitement in her voice.

"'It allows the Administration to absolve itself of responsibility for its own flawed policy. It’s no different than if you sent a classroom of 2nd graders into a burning building, and when anyone objects you throw in their face that they 'don't support our 2nd graders"'"
