"Popularity Isn't Everything"

Or so Fred Barnes says in a WeeklyStandard/WSJ column. He wants Bush to keep doing whats he's been doing: Social Security, Guantanamo, Iraq. Barnes salutes Bush's "far-reaching" agenda, and ends with this:
"[Ending] his presidency with record low popularity may turn out to be a sign of substantive achievement and lasting reform."
Nope.

record low popularity may turn out to be a sign of substantive achievement and lasting reform

an increase in violence in Iraq may turn out to be a sign that we were right to invade Iraq all along

the continued lackluster performance of the economy may turn out to be a sign that running up huge deficits to fund tax breaks for the wealthy was great fiscal policy

the statistical uptick in cases of autism in the county may turn out to be a sign that relaxing the regulations on mercury emissions was good environmental policy

the fact that we are now a country that supports, condones, and conducts torture around the world may turn out to be a sign that we are a moral beacon for other countries in the world

Talk about talking out your ass.

If Fred Gets an anal cyst, and continues with this blither, that cyst will be a cold sore.

Bush's legacy will be measured in the missing limbs and prosthetics worn by the U.S. armed forces and national guards.

It's true, haven't you heard? Unpopularity is the new popularity.

Shall we call this the cod liver oil theory, that it is good for you because you didn’t like it?

And Republicans try to sell us on Democrats as the anti-popular elitists?

Sounds like intraparty spin being prepared for the inevitable backlash at the polls next fall.
