Will Bush sink?

Recent news would have you believe that Bush is headed for big trouble. The Iraq elections might be a mess. Bush's inaugural speech was cooly received. The dollar is weak. Wall Street is sluggish. So Bush going down, right?

Not so fast. Remember the first four months of 2004?
  • David Kay saying there were no WMD
  • Bush being forced to create a commission to find out "what went wrong" about WMD/intel
  • Paul O'Neill's book, The Price of Loyalty
  • Bush's State of the Union speech considered a dud
  • Bush's National Guard service under scrutiny
  • Gasoline prices on the rise ("only" $1.66, and not as high as summertime prices, but much more than before)
  • Richard Clarke's book, Against All Enemies
  • The 9/11 hearings
  • Abu Ghraib exposed
  • April was the deadliest month to date with 135 U.S. casualties
  • A drifting economy
Yet Bush survived.

It's going to take a whole lot of somethin' to discombobulate this administration. We still think Iraq will be "it", but only time will tell.

Not a chance, man. We're about due for another hit, and when it comes, the US is going to go apeshit. There's no power Congress won't grant, and no limit to what the Bushies will do in response.

In any event, Iran's on the target list, and a good bombing will get the blood up. Bush is good for at least another 4 years, and the dynasty will continue afterward. Count on it.

The 20th century was called "America's Century."

At the beginning of the century, the US had many rivals for power. At mid century, the US saved Europe by warcraft and finance. By the end of the century, the US was the undisputed world power.

I think that is ending and the US is headed for decline. The Bush administration is the beginning.

So it all ending, not with a bang, but with a wimper.
