First time in over three years: In a story, Bush Brushes Off Mixed Reviews of Debate, we read the following: (excerpts, emp add) Bush walked the length of his jumbo jet and popped into the press cabin at the rear to talk about the last days of the campaign after his final face-off with Democratic challenger John Kerry. It was Bush's first appearance in the press cabin since the harrowing day of Sept. 11, 2001. After avoiding cameras on his plane so long, Bush left some people wondering whether his visit signaled concern about the race following the debates.
"Were you anticipating my arrival?" he joked to reporters, who had been alerted a minute earlier.
Unlike Bush, other presidents — such as President Clinton and Bush's father — were regular visitors to the press cabin on Air Force One. "I'm not sure it's the ideal setting to try to communicate with the American people through the press corps from an audio and visual standpoint," McClellan said.

It's hard work talking without a printed backdrop and a teleprompter, not to mention an earphone.
Q: Will the press corps fall for this?

infotainment
Pehaps, buoyed by recent successes in the war on terrorism, the pilot of Air Force One has cleared the use of personal electronic devices, if you know what I mean...
{na-naaaah!} NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!!
I'll bet it scared them to death--it was supposed to. OTOH, they may have thought it would be a return to good liquor and cute nicknames. That worked last election. At least the NYT demoted Bruni to the restaurant beat after a discreet period of time. Perhaps, he'll vanish into the obits if he isnists in staying around.
