Geography lesson:

  • President Bush frequently flies to Camp David on the helicopter Marine One.

  • Camp David is located within the boundaries of Catoctin Mountain Park, which is immediately west of Thurmont, Maryland.

  • Camp David is 54 miles from the center of Washington D.C.   (as the crow flies)

  • When Bush was in San Diego, the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln was 39 miles from the coast.

  • Bush could have used a helicopter, but chose to land on the ship in a small S-3B Viking jet.

Story: Drama intended in Bush's jet flight
