Question: Why not do it for adults?

In the news: Government Abstinence Web Site Draws Ire
WASHINGTON - An array of advocacy groups are calling on the federal government to take down one of its new Web sites, saying it presents biased and inaccurate advice to parents on how to talk to their children about sex. The site - 4parents.gov - stresses the promotion of abstinence.
We've got one question for the pro-abstinence folks:   Teen pregnancy aside, every other 'fact' cited can be applied towards arguing that non-married adults should not have sex. So why aren't you making that case as well?

UPDATE: Found this at the website: (emp add)
Oral Sex     More and more newspapers are reporting oral sex between children at school, during class, on school buses and at parties.   ...   Parents must make it clear to their children that oral sex is as dangerous in terms of disease as is intercourse.
More and more newspapers are reporting oral sex on school buses?

UPDATE 2: Check out the ethnic mix of the only picture on the main page of the website:

Except for the 4 people in the very middle, each of these folks looks as if they were pulled from other sources and pasted in. In other words, a very deliberate decision to make the objects of the site discussion look as non-white as possible.

Interesting, especially if, like me, you've ever lived in a poor white rural community seething with teen and pre-teen sexual activity, not to mention the pregnancies and rapes.

Is our government trying to imply that only minorities engage in risky sexual behavior by showing that picture? I think Dr. Bill Frist was the medical consultant for this bizarre abstinence only program. I'm surprised they did not include his belief that AIDS can be transmitted via sweat and tears.

I just took a second look at the graphic, and the person who put it together has an interesting mind set.

Most of the people are in racially pure couples!

The two furthest to the left of the image are an Asian couple, with the woman photoshoped so it looks like she's resting her head on the guy's shoulder.

Next to them is an African American couple. On the far right is a white couple.

Yes, the whites are on the far right. Insert joke here.

Next to the African American couple is, based on the cuddle that's been sloppily created, a lesbian couple.

And who's between the lesbians and the whites?

A single Hispanic youth with a depressed look on his face. He also has stooped shoulders, almost as if he were gripping something near waist level.

The message of the graphic is even more racist than I first thought. Look at the clothing of the different people, and their expressions. I won't go into details, but there are several ways in which the person who put together the graphic is trying to reinforce a number of racial stereotypes.

For example, which person is in a t-shirt, instead of something that could easily be worn to work at a "Business Casual" environment? If you answered the lone Hispanic, you're right.

I think we do need to warn our children that oral sex on school buses is dangerous. I mean the shocks on those things are awful and one wrong bump and...well things will get messy. And not in the good way.

Amazing what passes for evidence in the Bush administration.

More and more (not-linked-to, uncited, unknown) newspapers report on increased oral sex--MUST BE TRUE!!!!

An estimated 95% of credentialed scientists around the world examine all the available data and conclude that global warming is a real and growing threat--CAN'T POSSIBLY BE TRUE!!!

If Republicans would practice the abstinence they preach, all these 'problems' would no longer be.

Kids are probably savvy enough to show their folks how the image was photoshopped. One can hope.

That is the WORST photoshop collage. And why do all the men have halos around them?

That's what you get with stock photography and a really bad graphic designer.

The men look all added in next to whatever "family" the designer was trying to create. I think the family on the right is supposed to be interracial with thier giant son standing in front of them.

It's funny. Statistics be damned the ideologues want thier no sex doctrine preached. Who cares if thier kids get more diseases and have more pregnancies.

I think the guy on the right has the halo because he's happy that he's screwing th blond chick, even though he's only somewhat white himself. Those people get that way, you know.

I think that there are certainly some problems with the site but why this enormous overreaction to the photo??

It's a racially diverse photo. Just like every other public relations photo put out by a western government or organization in the last 20 years. This photo is not brainwashing anyone. It's just a poorly hacked photoshop job by some intern.

This is a wasteful vector of attack. Time and energy would be better spent debating conservative christians about the core issues - condom use and homosexuality. When you attack the photo, you're accusing the creators of racism and that is unfounded.
